Housing Choice Voucher
Also known as Section 8, this program helps families afford safe, quality housing in the private rental market.
How the Program Works
The Housing Choice Voucher program provides rental assistance to eligible families, allowing you to find and lease a home in the private rental market. Dakota County CDA pays a portion of the rent directly to the landlord, and you pay the remainder.

Select from available rentals in the private market that meet program standards.

Pay approximately 30% of your adjusted monthly income toward rent.
- Portability
Move within Dakota County or transfer your voucher to another area.
- Quality Standards
All units must pass Housing Quality Standards inspection.
Eligibility Requirements
- Household income at or below 50% of Area Median Income
- U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status
- Pass criminal background screening
- Good rental history
